How to import your books from Skoob into Pile of Books
Get a copy of your shelf, adapt the spreadsheet and review the books in Pile's importer before saving.
1. Get a copy of your shelf
You can request a copy of your data through Skoob's official channels. Another option is tropxeskoob, a third-party project that creates a CSV or JSON file on your computer.
tropxeskoob is not affiliated with Pile. It may ask for your Skoob credentials: review the project before using it. Never send your password or token to Pile. Pile only receives the file you choose and never signs in to your Skoob account.
2. Adapt a copy of the CSV
Keep the original file. The tropxeskoob CSV has no guaranteed format for Pile's importer. Open a copy in a spreadsheet and check every book before saving it as a UTF-8 CSV.
id: a unique, stable identifier for each book. Keep the same ID if you import again.titulo: the book's title.status: use quero ler, lendo, lido, relendo or abandonei (want to read, reading, read, rereading, abandoned). Don't keep numeric status codes without checking what they mean.autorandisbn: optional. Keep the ISBN as text so leading zeros aren't lost.nota: optional, a whole number from 0 to 10. If the original rating is from 0 to 5, multiply by 2 and round to the nearest whole number. Leave it empty when there's no rating.inicioandconclusao: optional, in YYYY-MM-DD format. Don't make up missing dates.
Example of a book with no rating or dates:
id,titulo,autor,status
skoob:123,Título da obra,Nome do autor,lido3. Review it in Pile's importer
Sign in to your shelf and open Settings. Under Bring your shelf from another app, tap Choose file and send the adapted CSV. It shows up as a Compatible spreadsheet, not as a Skoob preset.
Nothing is saved when you choose the file. Check the errors, duplicates, statuses and ratings. Fix the spreadsheet if something doesn't match your shelf. Before importing, you're offered a backup of your current shelf: keep that copy.
What doesn't come over automatically
This brings over the fields you prepared in the spreadsheet. It doesn't move friends, goals or reviews from Skoob. Covers and other details can be looked up in catalogs, but not every edition will be found. Afterwards, check the book pages and the Tidy your shelf guide on Home.
For a small shelf, adding books through search may be less work than adapting the file.
