How to bring your Goodreads or StoryGraph shelf

Export from Goodreads or StoryGraph and import into Pile of Books, with duplicate review and a backup before saving.

1. Download your export file

Goodreads

On Goodreads, open My Books, find Import and export and select Export Library. When the file is ready, download the CSV (usually named goodreads_library_export.csv).

StoryGraph

In StoryGraph account settings, request a library export and download the CSV when it arrives.

Your own spreadsheet

You can also use your own CSV spreadsheet with columns such as titulo, autor, status (quero ler, lendo, lido) and an id on each row. Use commas or semicolons as separators, as Portuguese Excel does.

2. Upload to Pile of Books

In Settings, under Bring your shelf from another app, tap Choose file. Nothing is saved yet: the app reads the file, detects its source and shows how many books and comics will be imported, have errors or are already on your shelf.

3. Check before saving

  • Books and comics already on your shelf (same ISBN or previously imported) are skipped automatically. You can import the same file again without duplicates.
  • Possible duplicates (same title and author) appear for you to decide. If you don't choose, they're skipped.
  • Invalid ISBNs are left blank. The list shows which ones need correcting later.

4. Import

Tap Import after review. Before saving, the app downloads a backup of your current shelf. If something fails, it undoes what was added and restores your shelf.

What gets imported

  • Title, author, ISBN, status, rating (5 stars becomes 10) and start and finish dates.
  • Goodreads binding details: Kindle and audiobooks become digital; graphic novels and manga become comics.
  • Covers, publishers and genres are fetched from catalogs for each book or comic during import.

After importing

On Home, Tidy your shelf shows what's left: finding missing covers, marking what you've read and filling in authors' countries.
